Even More GIS

Today we learned how to add grids, a legend, a title, a scale, and a north arrow to our GIS maps. It made a big difference on our maps, they look much better. And we learned how to crop our image.

The last movie I saw was four christmases that I saw with three people with cerebral palsy and two girls who help take care of them.

GPS

Today we worked with a GPS outside and learned how to find coordinates so we can put them on our GIS map. I was a little confused trying to open my excel sheet in GIS because I couldn't find the file.

The toughest thing I have to do these last days of school is get 12 hours of volunteer hours in by next wednesday.

Maps

We worked in ArcGIS today on labeling parts of our layers so we can see clearly which area we are working with and how to add strike and dips to our maps. I was not confused or lost today.

One of my favorite web sites is facebook because that's where I talk to a lot of my friends and family and get to see pictures of memories.

more arc gis

We worked in ArcGIS again with our mylars and learned how to create a shape and zoom to each layer. I was frustrated today because I was behind and had a hard time following. my mylar didn't ever show up.

I start listening to Christmas music after thanksgiving because I don't like skipping that holiday straight to christmas.

Arc GIS

We worked in Arc GIS today working with different layers and making them transparent so that we could see the parts we needed to work on including our mylar we scanned. I had a little trouble following today because I did not have my image scanned already.

A good book i have read lately is called the memory keepers daughter. it is about a girl born with down syndrome who is cared for by the nurse of the girl's mother.

GIS

Today we worked in arcGIS and learned how to organize a map that we will put in our paper. We learned to be organized and where to get pictures. I was not confused about anything today.

My favorite place to eat is pizza hut, we would eat there on my birthday all the time.

review

today we did a test review and went over illustrator, powerpoint, and photoshop. we did not finish the review paper, so i still have questions, but I will ask them later.

i know a nerdy science joke that you all probably know. one atom said to the other, i don't feel so good, i think i lost an electron. the other atom said, really are you sure?
yeah, i'm positive.

Power point

We learned how to use power point today by choosing templates, editing all the slides at once, and adding pictures and animation to out presentation. I was not confused about anything today.

Adam's presentation was nice, but I didn't like all the sounds. Some of the animation took too long to get to the information. Also the font was too light and I couldn't see what it said on some of the slides.

Poster

Today we worked in illustrator on how to make a poster. We used trasparency to add a cool background so it's a picture instead of just a color. Then we worked with symmetry and font type and size to make our poster look professional. We looked in GSA to see the poster format we should use. I was not confused today and thought it was a good class.

My favorite class so far has been gymnastics, but academically it has been geology 112. I loved that class because I learned so much about the things I had already been interested in from taking 101.

Poster

Today we learned how to make a good poster by using symmetry and color to our advantage and draw the reader in. After we talked about that, we worked on our projects some more in illustrator. I was not confused about anything today.

Even more Illustrator

We played in illustrator more today and learned how to make a mirrored image, set guides, use the eraser, scissors, and knife tools. We also used gradients and the magic wand selection. I was not frustrated about anything today.

I have lived in tucson arizona, hugoton kansas, kansas city MO, Lake St. Louis Mo, Troy MO, La Jara CO, and Roosevelt Utah.

Freebee

Today in class we messed with illustrator some more and made our own cross section. I liked this class because i have been confused about how to use the pen and finally figured it out. we learned the tricks to trasparency too so we could edit a scanned image and make it look better, but still like it did before we edited it. I was not frustrated about anything today.

It is a freebee third question day. I will tell my favorite place I have lived. I loved living in Kansas City, Missouri. It was so beautiful there all the time with many dark green trees and lots of water, totally opposite of Utah. There were no mountains there though, that's what I like about Utah.

Illustrator stuff

Today we learned how to make a strat column on illustrator. We used the pathfinder to clean up the picture and then we made our own halloween picture. I was a little confused today because I got lost a couple times.

Tonight for Halloween my friends and I are going to go to like 3 parties and then watch brothers grim.

More Illustrator

We learned how to make our own picture in illustrator today. We placed and embedded an image so that it will open again and it is not a link. We learned how to align and distribute space in lines or text or whatever we want. I a little frustrated today because I had trouble cutting the image. We were going pretty fast and I missed a couple words so was lost the entire section.

My favorite Halloween costume has been an indian. When I was little I wanted to be Pocahontas and would dress up in an indian costume and play in the woods where I lived in Missouri. I would dress up like that every year.

Illustrator

Illustrator was fun today, we learned how to draw and manipulate shapes, text, and use the pencil and paint tools to create our own shapes. I liked being able to just create whatever comes to my mind. I was not frustrated at all today, the lecture was very good.

Something I would like to know about the future is if my family will all live near each other. We grew up far away from the rest of my family and we have all wanted to live close when we settle down.

Clone Tool

We used the clone tool today in class to remove or add objects to our picture. I was a little confused because when I try to remove people in the mexico picture, you can see the sand repeating really badly and it does not look real at all.

I don't have any superstitions, but when I was little my sister tried to make me think that if a black cat walked across your path you would have bad luck for 13 years. If that was so, I would still be having bad luck!

Mini assigment #4

Merging

Today we merged three photos to make it look like one long picture of dead horse point. It was really cool how we could do that, I liked that I couldn't even tell where I had erased part of a picture and the other began. I was not fristrated about anything today.

I am a sports fan for the teams who I know, but I don't watch TV just to watch sports. If I know who is playing, I am a big sports fan.

Mini assigment #3

Fall Activities

In class today we played with photoshop some more. We learned how to use the burn and dodge tool, the eraser, and how to edit a scanned image. It was a lot of fun because I like art anyway so I got to mess with a picture to make it better. I was not frustrated or confused at all today.

My favorite fall activity is playing outside in the wind and leaves that blow around. There aren't so many around here in Utah, but in Missouri there would be tons of leaves because there were so many trees.

Even more photoshop

Today we learned more about how to edit font and shapes with pictures in photoshop. We also added a border and edited text with a picture. I was not confused about anything today.

The best date I have ever been on was when we went to DI to pick out funny outfits for each other and we had to wear that outfit that night when we went ice skating. Afterwards, the boys attacked us with flour and we had a big fight.

Mini assignment #2

More Photoshop

Today in class we learned how to correct crookedness in pictures by using photoshop and we altered the color and shadows. It took me a while to find out how to do some things like change the background so that was a little frustrating, but overall i really liked today's lecture.

My worst injury was a broken wrist when I was 9. My brother was bouncing me on the trampoline and I landed on my arm and broke my wrist.

Mini assignment #1

Photoshop

Today we worked in photoshop and learned how to layer and edit pictures. We will do miniature assignments with pictures we choose to edit and then we will make one for our paper as well. I was a little confused about how to pick a layer to use it when the computer has the other layer selected.

My favorite season is fall because i love the colors of the leaves and it's usually not too hot or cold. I love to be outside during this time and play in the wind.

Test Review and Pets

Today I was late for class because I watched my friend defend her thesis for the first half of class. For the part that I was here, we reviewed what we had learned about excel and the format of the test. I did not have any questions besides those that were probably answered for the part that I missed.

I grew up with three dogs who had puppies often so there were always labrador puppies around my house and we would sell them when they were 6 weeks old. My favorite puppy was a little black boy named Zorro. I used to sneak him inside to sleep with me and my mom would get mad. Then one day I came home from school and he had been sold while I was gone. It was so sad...

Charts, Adventure

We made charts in excel today in class. It was really cool how we could insert charts in addition to what we had typed in the cells like we did last time. I did not get frustrated about anything, it was really smooth today.

If money was not an issue, my adventure would be to scuba dive in the ocean and swim with dolphins :)

More excel and breakfast

today we had more practice working with excel by making a table. we learned how to do formulas really fast so that we can spend a lot less time typing and calculating ourselves. The biggest difference in the dp and da that I found was 8592.8. I was not frustrated at all today, I liked class a lot.

my favorite breakfast food is french toast. I mostly like the recepie my mom makes because when I try to make a different one the bread comes out dry :)

Excell

Today in class we learned how to use Microsoft Excell and how to format columns and rows to make tables look the way we want. We also had help doing our cover letter for our proposal. I was not frustrated about anything today, it was a good day.

If I could play an instrument I would play the harp because I think it is a really neat instrument and would take a lot of talent-it is very beautiful.

PDF and wierd relatives

Today I learned how to create a PDF and edit it how I want without having to go into Microsoft. We learned how to insert and rotate pages and edit someone else's document and other such things.
I did not have any major questions except that I missed the part about inserting pages that you select.
My wierdest relative is my cousin Emily who we run from at family reunions. She is crazy and will hurt you sometimes so you have to be fast :)

Editing and the worst movie

Today we learned how to use Microsoft Word to edit a paper. We are going to look at someone's paper who is in the other class and use the proofing tools in word to edit their paper. I had never even used that tab before, but now I know what to do and how to use those tools. I am a little confused about the symbols on the paper we were given for proofreading because don't know what some of them mean.

The worst movie ever is the New World. It's a really boring movie, historically inaccurate, and it's mostly john smith watching pocahontas walk around in the woods.

Writing a Paragraph

Hydrothermal dolomite is generally interpreted to
have formed as a result of hot fluids related to hydrothermal
activity and/or burial alteration of limestones.
Many of these dolomites are known to host major
reserves of hydrocarbons, and many are also associated
with Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) Pb-Zn ore

Geo web page

Today I created my own web page on the geology department site. I learned how to upload pictures, papers, and make them private or public. I liked how we got to learn the different ways to attach documents as a pdf or html.

I was a little frustrated because I forgot my password (every class I have makes us create like 3 new emails and blogs) and then I was behind in the lecture because I couldn't get onto my profile.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a marine biologist and swim with dolphins. I guess I'm kinda close, being a science major, but I missed the boat into biology.

Web site and Food

Today we learned how to create our website on the geology home page at BYU. It is nice because I can save stuff I need on that page and see other's pages as well if they have useful information and cool picture from geology trips.

My favorite food is mashed potatoes and gravy. We always have them with our roast for holidays so the gravy is flavored with water from the roast and it is the best thing I have ever tasted :)

Scientific paper and superhero

Today I learned how to write a scientific paper and how it is different from a normal term paper that I have usually written. It includes an abstract, an introduction, a method section, a result section, a discussion section, and a conclusion section. We had a chance to create an abstract for a fairy tale.

If I had a superhero power, I would be able to fly so I could get everywhere I needed to easily and more fun.

My color

If I were a color I would be emerald green because that is my favorite color.

Writing Proposals, dream vacation

Writing proposals is a very important topic to understand in order to aquire funds needed to continue your education or get into a workshop to increase your experience or whatever you need to ask someone for. It was useful to have it explained to me instead of having to figure it out on my own when I needed to write a proposal. Hopefully this assignment will help me to be able to write a better proposal when I find the need to.

My dream vacation is a trip to Ireland where I would sit outside and paint the beautiful landscape. I will probably never go to Ireland, and if I did I wouldn't be able to paint very well.

How to Interview

A good interview calls for a few things to set you apart from the rest of the applicants. Something about you must be different and impressive as well as other atributes that can make or break the interview. You must look the part to be consiered for a job, dress nicely. I know now that I should show good people skills; have the ability to communicate effectively with others and get along with everyone. Not always is it the smartest person who gets the job, but the most prepared person with a good presentation. A good thing to do while interviewing is to ask the company questions, not just answer their questions for you.

My CV

Today in class I learned the difference between a CV and a resume. I have never put together a resume so this class should be helpful and interesting. It will be tricky to make an impressive resume when I am only a sophomore with little experience. It will also help me to realize what is important to accomplish throughout my educational experience so I can prepare now to have an impressive resume.

Last year my friends and I pulled a prank on some boys in our FHE group at night. We popped like 10 bags of popcorn (which broke our microwave) and put the popcorn in a trash bag. We sneaked over to their house and taped a different trash bag to the door frame. Then we poured the popcorn into that trash bag so it filled up the space between the door and the bag. We knocked on their door and ran off. We watched from a distance while the boys came to the door, the popcorn spilling into their house and onto their feet. They never knew it was us until the end of the semester when we told them before we moved away so they could not get us back.

microsoft and my scar

Today in class i learned how to use Microsoft 2007. I have been used to 2003 which does not have the handy toolbars and options that are in this version. At first I was really lost when it came to formating my papers, but now that I have had a tour of office 2007 I know my way around pretty well.

I don't have too many big scars, and my only big one is not a cool story. I was riding a bike in wal-mart and my foot slipped causing the pedal to scrape up my shin while I fell over the top of the bike. Now I have about an inch long scar on my leg. :)
